Topic:  We consider the second boundary value problem for a second-order differential-difference equation with a difference operator with variable coefficients on an interval of integer length. The existence of a generalized solution of the problem is proved. We show that the smoothness of generalized solutions is preserved over the entire interval of an integer length when the condition of orthogonality of the right-hand side of the differential-difference equation in the space L2(0,d) to a finite number of linearly independent functions is fulfilled.
