A themed train dedicated to the 65th anniversary of RUDN University has been launched in the Moscow Metro! For six months, the train will run along the Sokolnicheskaya Line.

The official launch ceremony was attended by RUDN Rector Oleg Yastrebov and Yulia Temnikova, Deputy Head of the Moscow Metro and Advisor to the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the Mayor of Moscow, the Government of Moscow, and our colleagues and partners from the Moscow Department of Transport for this gift marking the 65th anniversary of our university. This is already the fourth joint project aimed at promoting education, science, and the values of international friendship that RUDN has implemented together with the Department of Transport. It is important for us that RUDN University becomes even closer and more recognizable to residents and visitors of the capital,”
said Oleg Yastrebov.

In the themed carriage, you will be able to read facts from the history of our university, learn about student life, international programs, educational directions and scientific achievements of the university.

The idea of the train was announced at the organizing committee for the preparation for the 65th anniversary of RUDN University, it was supported by the Rector of our university. The design was not easy to come by. The authors of the concept were Elena Apasova, Vice Rector for Strategic Communications, and Victoria Bashmakova, Head of the Events Department. A large number of photos were viewed, after which the designers spent more than one sleepless night preparing the layouts for printing. And during the launch, Ivan Bessonov, a specialist from RUDN Event department, spent a week right at the depot. But the result was definitely worth it — now residents and guests of the capital will be able to get to know our university better during a subway ride!

RUDN appeared on the Moscow Metro scheme in 2024, when the “Universitet druzhby narodov” (Peoples’ Friendship University) station opened in the first section of the Troitskaya Line. Thanks to the launch of traffic on the new branch, over 1 million people received new routes and convenient transfers to the Bolshaya Koltsevaya and Sokolnicheskaya lines. Today, Peoples’ Friendship University is the most popular station on the Troitskaya Line: over 21,000 trips are made here on weekdays.

In 2025, the Moscow Metro continued its active cooperation with the university as part of the 65th anniversary celebrations. A photo exhibition titled “From Origins to Heights: The History of RUDN Through the Lens of Time” was organized at the “Universitet druzhby narodov” station, featuring 30 striking images from the university’s history. Later, an exhibition titled “RUDN: A Territory of Opportunities” was launched at Vorobyovy Gory station. Visitors could see student trophies from international competitions, gifts from foreign partners, and even national costumes representing the countries of RUDN students. In addition, a themed “Troika” transport card was released in the university’s design, featuring the slogan: “Your pass to the world of knowledge”.
