The Research Center for Mechanical Engineering Technologies conducts research, development work and experimental design in the areas of improving the energy efficiency of thermal power plant equipment, addressing renewable energy issues and reducing the negative environmental impact of the electric power industry.

RESOURCES

The laboratory facilities enable the following work and research:

  • addressing system-wide issues related to the structure of generating capacity in the unified and isolated power systems;
  • addressing issues related to the maneuverability of combined-cycle gas turbine and steam power units, and increasing service intervals for gas turbine units using computer modeling;
  • coordinating power fluctuations in renewable energy sources and the specifics of their parallel operation with thermal power plants;
  • developing technologies to reduce flue gas emissions from thermal power plants.

Equipment Fleet

  • Multistage Heat Pump experimental unit to evaluate the efficiency of heat pumps for recycling waste energy;
  • combustion engine;
  • jProbe NT 1-85-80 SF flexible USB video endoscope for visual inspection of hollow cavities in various units;
  • portable gas analyzers;
  • thermal imagers, pyrometers;
  • portable barometers, moisture meters, temperature sensors and anemometers;
  • leak detectors.

THE TEAM

Solves a wide range of problems out of concern of academic and industrial partners related to conducting research into the energy efficiency of thermal power plant equipment and the use of secondary and renewable energy resources, modeling objects and processes, and developing new technologies.

PARTNERS

  • PAO Mosenergo
  • Federal State Unitary Enterprise NAMI State Research Center
  • Kolomensky Zavod OJSC
  • Joint Institute for High Temperatures of the Russian Academy of Sciences
Main scientific directions
  • Developing recommendations for increasing the service intervals of gas turbine units of various capacities based on mathematical modeling
  • Optimizing operating modes of thermal power plant power equipment
  • Studying critical components of power equipment and developing diagnostic algorithms for their technical condition
  • Developing recommendations for reducing carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions at electric power plants
  • Developing guidelines, organizational standards, GOSTs and other regulatory and technical documents for electric power plants
Achievements All achievements

A two-stage heat pump pilot rig (patent of invention) was created to evaluate the efficiency of heat pumps when recovering secondary energy sources.

A unique multi-stage heat pump pilot rig (patent for invention) was developed and manufactured to evaluate the efficiency of heat pumps when recovering secondary energy sources.

A method was developed to improve the cooling system of a free-piston Stirling engine (FPSI) by optimizing the flow of the working fluid in the FPSI cooler to boost heat removal efficiency and enhance technical and economic performance.
