At the invitation of the Thai side, from 27 November to 2 December 2017 Joint delegation of the RUDN University and Plekhanov Russian University of Economics visited to the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand.

The purpose of the work trip to Thailand was to discuss the aspects of scientific cooperation and joint research in the field of agricultural land use, land reform and sustainable development of rural areas.

The Secretary General of the Committee of the reform of agricultural land tenure, Mr. Surajit Itarachit met with the delegation of representatives of two famous universities of Russia. During the meeting they had opportunity for presentation of their reports and exchange of views with employees of the Ministry of sustainable development of territories, land valuation, natural resources, pollution damage to the environment in the process of economic activity.

It should be noted that the main objective currently in Thailand land reform is to implement the ideas of sustainable development, reducing the gap in incomes of the population by granting land to poor citizens. At the same time solved the problem of the preservation of agricultural lands and their protection, creation of groups of farms to work more effectively, as well as the production of high quality, environmentally friendly and safe agricultural products with access to 100% organic farming.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand organized a visit to the Regional Agricultural Land Reform Office (ALRO) and farms in Chonburi province (100 km from Bangkok), which received public lands at different times (4 months back and 10 years ago.)

They also visited to the training center for the training and education of farmers in the province of Chachoengsao (80 km from the capital). During the meetings with farmers and experts our delegation had the opportunity of study experience and practice of project management for infrastructure development, promotion and support of modern forms and methods of land use management on the principles of «green» economy.

The idea of preparing and publishing in Thai and Russian languages a manual for farmers on sustainable development of the territory, writing joint articles and participating in international conferences on the above problems caused the mutual interest.

The Thai side expressed interest in further development of cooperation and readiness to visit RUDN University in 2018.

RUDN University scientist: Africa relies on small modular reactors to solve energy problems

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), electricity consumption in Africa has increased by more than 100% over the past two years (2020-2022). However, 74.9% of this energy is still produced by burning organic fuels — natural gas, coal and oil. At the same time, the level of electrification on the continent remains extremely low — only 24%, while in other developing countries it reaches 40%. Even in grid-connected areas, electricity supply is often unreliable: industrial enterprises lose energy on an average of 56 days a year.
