Professor Douglas Ponton (Italy) about the problems of linguistic ambiguity in working with public opinion

On November 15, at the Faculty of Philology of the RUDN University, with the support of the Institute of Modern Languages, Intercultural Communication and Migration, a public lecture was delivered by Douglas Ponton, Professor, Department of Analysis of Political, Social and Institutional Processes, University of Catania (Italy), Member of the Editorial Board of the Russian Journal of Linguistics .

Professor Ponton's public lecture ‘The Formation of Popular Opinion: Media Representation of Russia” was devoted to the problem of linguistic ambiguity in the formation of public opinion about Russia in Western countries. The professor paid special attention to the study of British public opinion about contemporary Russian political reality. The lecturer clearly showed the audience how easy it is to change people's attitudes to a particular political event using the media.
The topic of the lecture aroused great interest among all those present, who noted its relevance and innovative presentation of the material. The meeting was attended by senior students of the direction “Linguistics”, graduate students, faculty teachers. In conclusion, Professor Ponton answered numerous questions from the audience regarding the history of Russian-British relations, the perception of Russian culture in Europe, and the current political situation in Great Britain.
