RUDN students take care of nature!

As an activist of the Scientific Student Society Lyubov Kolpakova together with the RUDN Law Institute proves that liquidation of hazardous substances without harming nature is possible.

Do you know what tailing dumps are? That is where the polluting wastes of chemical plants are contained. However, the register of units that have a negative impact on the environment does not include information about the class of hazard of facilities and their construction characteristics. This significantly reduces the efficiency and safety of liquidation work at a hazardous industrial facility.

Luybov Kolpakova, a third-year student, used the example of the Chelyabinsk and Pskov regions to study the Russian legislative framework on this issue and concluded that the storage facilities are disposed of incorrectly.

What can we make so the disposal of hazardous waste does not pose a threat to the environment? Luybov suggests making changes to the provisions for the demolition and disposal of hazardous substances and facilities.

Imagine that all objects will be disposed of without any harm to the environment. Objects that have a negative impact on the environment occur when the business entity that caused environmental damage did not eliminate them in a timely and complete manner. If there is no way to find the person responsible for the damage caused, the state is forced to take responsibility for the elimination of these objects.

“Humanity is increasingly confronted with global environmental problems on which our lives directly depend. Legal regulation is now becoming one of the most effective mechanisms for controlling humanity’s impact on the environment. This fact is the reason for my interest in the topic. This study illustrates one of the possible ways to combat environmental threats,” Luybov comments.

In 2017, RUDN University scientists constructed a new explicit second-order precision difference scheme using modern computer algebra methods for 2-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations (NSE) [1]. This year, our mathematicians used a new scheme [2] to construct a numerical solution to the Cauchy problem with initial data (for t=0) as satisfying the continuity equation. Scientists managed to achieve previously unattainable accuracy of the continuity equation.

Color against inattention – how students and teachers at RUDN University and Altai State University created an app for children with ADHD

There are approximately 1,600,000 children in Russia with confirmed attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The necessary therapy is not always available to their families due to cost or the lack of specialized centers nearby. Teachers and students at RUDN University and Altai State University have developed a special app for these children that increases attention and reduces anxiety using the color photostimulation method.
