RUDN University awards for specific areas of science and technology based on the results of 2021
This year, Professor Leonid Voskresensky, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, RUDN and Professor Igor Savin, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, the Institute of Ecology, RUDN, received the highest award in the field of natural and technical sciences.
Applicants are evaluated according to the following criteria:
- number of publications in citation database;
- the author’s monograph;
- citation rate;
- received patents/results of intellectual activity;
- reviews of the applicant’s scientific works.
Leonid Voskresensky and Igor Savin spoke about their plans in science and gave advice to young scientists.

What is your latest research about?
It is devoted to the development of new (green) approaches to the synthesis of useful substances, the so-called “domino reactions”. The main advantage of these reactions is the development of a synthesis method that will minimize environmental damage due to the use of an environmentally friendly solvent, the absence of a stage for the isolation of intermediate products by chromatography, and atom economy.
What are you planning to explore in the future?
Making plans in science is a thankless task... However, if everything goes as I plan, I will like to take up chemistry and biomass valorization.
What advice do you have for young scientists to be successful?
Don’t be afraid to take risks! Science, in general, and chemistry, in particular, are as boundless as the ocean, and they have room for any ideas, no matter how delusional they may seem.

What is your latest research about?
My latest research is devoted to the development of non-contact methods for monitoring soils and crops. This information is necessary to increase yields, save fertilizers when cultivating crops, and minimize environmental risks. Existing monitoring methods are expensive, time consuming and not accurate enough. We are trying to make these methods more efficient, cheaper and faster, using the latest scientific achievements in the field of satellite and unmanned technologies, Internet of things technologies and the use of digital sensors. Our developments are aimed at the scientific substantiation of these new methods and technologies.
What are you planning to explore in the future?
The plans for the coming decades include the creation of artificial vision systems in agriculture, which would allow to fully automate the process of monitoring soils and crops.
What advice do you have for young scientists to be successful?
The main advice is to try to find what interests you the most and work in that direction. Real scientists work for interest. Only total concentration on research performance can lead to great discoveries and considerable achievements in science.
