The ecology of urban systems was discussed at the RUDN

Where to work if you’re an ecologist? How have green spaces changed in 200 years? What is the problem of urban forest pollution? Young scientists and students discussed these questions at a scientific seminar at RUDN.

40 students from the Institute of Ecology talked about the state of the environment in cities, the formation of urban ecosystems and green infrastructure.

“At the moment, urbanization in the world is more than 55%. The share of the urban population is constantly increasing. Already, more than 4.5 billion people live in cities. inhabitants on an area of about 3% of the entire territory of our planet. Urbanized territories are greatly changed because of human activity. Urban ecosystems are extremely technogenic, which has a negative impact on the health of billions of people living in cities,” said Elena Parakhina, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Environmental Management at the Institute of Ecology of the RUDN.
